History

Founded in 1933 by Joseph Hall after he was unable to continue working downt pit after a mining accident, Halls Bakery, or as its know locally "Joe Hall's" soon became popular amongst Chorley folk for its fresh baked products. Operating from his premises in Market Street, he built a local following which to this day has remained loyal to his products, especially those famous pies which are the core of the Halls Bakery range. They where so popular that he opened a "casino" and function venue above his Eaves Lane shop catering for weddings, anniversarys, christenings etc. Lots of food fads have come and gone in those 77 years, but Halls Pies or as we call them "proper pies" have remained as firm favourites amongst locals and people further afield.

Halls Bakery still uses local Chorley and Lancashire based suppliers wherever and whenever it can although in the modern world it's not as easy as it once was. But still we manage quite well with all of our raw meat being bought in Chorley and the vast majority of our raw material suppliers being based in Chorley & Lancashire.

We still bake all the traditional favourites with Joe Halls Pies selling over 15,000 a week. We are still proud to produce the famous "Butter Pie" as well the world famous "Chorley Cake". Whilst we no longer trade from Market street you can find us at any of the four retail sites we have in the town. Including our latest venture the PROPER pie shop at 47 Chapel Street Chorley, and although the "Casino" is now a distant memory we still provide catering with our Halls 2U catering service.
